Background of this Affairs
The United Nations has released its annual ranking of people's quality of life.
The ranking is based on the average life-span, income, GDP and other factors in 177 countries.
The United Nations has prepared the ranking every year since 1990.
This year, Norway took first place for the fourth straight year.
The second and third places were taken by Sweden and Australia, respectively.
Japan took ninth place this year. This was mainly because of people's high annual income.
As for the social advancement of women and equality of pay between the sexes, Japan did not even make the top 100.

Is their anything to help solve aggravating the low birthrates and marriage problems.
The government has conducted a public opinion survey on the declining birthrate.
More than 75 percent of the respondents were worried about future problems caused by the slowing birthrate.
Over 80 percent of respondents in their fifties were worried about the situation.
However, only 60 percent of those in their twenties expressed concern.
Many people believe the declining birthrate will have adverse affects on social systems such as pensions and medical care.

The review of the Constitution
The new constitution established in 1946 guarantees equal rights for both men and women.
As for the social advancement of women and equality of the sexes, Japan did not even make the top 100.
The administration of article 24. does not work enough in Japan.
And yet there is the review of the constitution, particularly article 9. and 24.(there is a long story.)

Chapter iii. Rights and duties of the people
article 24.
Marriage shall be based only on the mutual consent of both sexes and it shall be maintained through mutual cooperation with the equal rights of husband and wife as a basis.
With regard to choice of spouse, property rights, inheritance, choice of domicile, divorce and other matters pertaining to marriage and the family, laws shall be enacted from the standpoint of individual dignity and the essential equality of the sexes.

Conclusion
The respondents expect the government to help women balance work and home life, and to reduce the economic burden imposed by raising children.

今回、日本における女性の結婚・家庭内・社会的地位等々について、ツイッターで自由な意見を求めてみた。背景には次のような事情がある。
国連は1990年から毎年、世界の人々の生活の質の年間ランキングを作成し発表しています。
そのランキングは177カ国の人々の平均寿命や所得、GDP、その他の要素に基づいています。

2009年10月5日、国連人間開発計画(United Nations Development Programme)が発表した2007年の人間開発指数(HDI)で、日本は2006年に引き続き10位となっています。
人間開発指数は「長寿で健康的な人生」「知識水準」「生活水準」の3分野を平均寿命・国民所得などから測定し、主に各国の生活の質を評価している。1位は前年に引き続きノルウェーとなり、2位はオートストラリア、3位はアイスランドとなった。人間開発最高位国(38ヶ国)にランクされたアジアの国は日本(10位)、シンガポール(23位)、香港(24位)、韓国(26位)、ブルネイ(30位)の5ヶ国であった。また、もっとも順位を上げたのは中国で前年7ランクアップの92位となった。
一方、女性の社会進出や、賃金の男女平等に関しては、日本は100位にも入っておりません。
つまり、男女平等(雇用機会均等法)等の法整備はできているものの、実際には女性の社会進出は日本は極めて遅れていると考えられます。
しかも国内では、少子化対策の一環として憲法２４条（男女同権論）の改憲論議や、またその改憲論に反対する運動も起きているのです。
現今は尖閣諸島問題等対中国問題で少子化対策傾向阻止の動きは表には出ていませんが早晩我が国の少子化問題と共に女性の社会進出、結婚問題は必ず再燃する事だと思うのであります。
前記エッセイにも取り上げられている、本山央子（もとやまひさこ）氏の活動（NGO）も注目の要があります。
そんな中で、英語ツイッターによる女性の立場に対する意見を求めてみたのです。
問題提起と題材
Jennifer Matsui氏のエッセイ"The war on women"（The Japan Times 掲載）をとりあげて、ツイッターでの意見を求めてみました。
"The war on women"は文字通り、現状では、"女性における戦い"と言うことが出来ましょう。女性の力が過小評価され過ぎていると考えられます。

（私は、女性も男性もともに家庭に対して共同の責任と権利・価値を有します。私の個人的見解では、結婚生活（法的に認められた夫婦）は子育てには（シングルマザー等の独身よりは）有利だと思います。（私は英国の事情には明るくない。少なくとも日本では"子育て支援"の援助費等も受けられるから、法的結婚者が子育てには有利な筈。）
